We accept and teach the Standards of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church (ARP) because we believe that these Standards are biblical. However, like any local church we have our own characteristics, developed because of our unique history. We have these main distinctives, drawn from commitment to the eternal truth of the Bible.
- We place more emphasis than most Reformed churches do on the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit and the operation of the gifts of the Spirit today. We believe that people need God's healing touch now just as much as they did in the days of the apostles. We expect that God will keep His promise, to give the gifts necessary for the ministry of His church. (We do not believe that God gives new revelation. The Bible is complete.)
- We are a church of small groups (our LIFE groups). We believe that the pattern displayed in Acts Christians celebrating together in large groups and meeting to encourage each other in small groups is the biblical pattern for church life. Therefore, we meet on Sunday for worship and teaching, and our members meet weekly in homes for edification (building each other up) encouragement in applying what we learn from the Bible.
- Growing out of the commitments already stated, our goal is obedience to the commandment of Jesus Christ" "Wherever you go, make disciples of all nations." This directs us into a process of disciple-building and into seeking ways to shared the gospel with those persons who do not yet know Him.
The word of God is our lamp, and the Lord god is our Light. The statement that best characterizes or outlook and our commitment is found in Psalm 36:9. It is the ARP motto: "In Thy light shall we see light".
